About

Funky Designs – Concrete Art, Decor, and Jewelry

My name is Eric Strickland and I am an artist living in Canton, OH. I cast colorful, smooth concrete in my home studio. I make concrete art,  jewelry, and decor items under the trade name of Funky Designs. My work can be found at art and craft shows around northeast Ohio, such as the 720 Market in North Canton, Wildroots in Hudson, the Yankee Peddler Festival in Canal Fulton, and many others. From May until December, I am at a show almost every weekend. The most current list of events can always be found here. You can also find my work at Print & Press Shop & Studios in Canton, Ohio and at Curate & Co. in Hartville, Ohio.

Artist and Owner

I grew up in New Hampshire and Maine before heading off to Ohio to study Studio Art at Marietta College. After graduation, I spent time working in retail, but I found myself lacking in inspiration to pursue art. Eventually, I returned to school, deciding that I needed to find myself a career in order to support a family. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Integrated Mathematics from Kent State University and taught Mathematics at the High School level in Uhrichsville, Ohio for sixteen years.

Over time, it became clear to me that I needed some form of artistic outlet. Inspiration still eluded me until I spent some time with my sister, co-owner of Opus Stone on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. There, she introduced me to the potential of the medium of concrete. From there, a period of intense experimentation led to founding Funky Designs.

Today, I attend art and craft shows around northeast Ohio, selling my creations. I love meeting people that are curious about what I do. I get all kinds of reactions, as I use concrete in ways that are beautiful and surprising. You can check my Events page to see where you can find me.
